Some notebook/tablet hybrids look like laptops with detachable screens. The Gigabyte S1185 Padbook is more of a tablet with an attachable keyboard.
The tablet features an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display with wide viewing angles. It also features a keyboard dock with a touchpad that makes typing easier. But there’s a kick-stand on the back of the tablet to prop it up and the keyboard doesn’t attach firmly enough to make the Padbook look quite like a laptop.
The tablet features HDMI and VGA ports, an Intel Core processor, and a capacitive touch panel.
There’s also an optical button to one side of the touchscreen. You can place a thumb or finger over the button and slide it around to control an on-screen cursor without plugging in the keyboard dock or a mouse. That gives you finer control over the movement of the cursor than you’d get using your fat fingers alone.
Gigabyte first introduced the S1185 at CES almost 6 months ago, but now that Intel’s new Haswell chips are available, it looks like the company may plan to ship the tablet with newer, faster, lower-power processor options.
