The Asus Transformer Book TX300CA-DH71 is a notebook with a 13.3 inch display and an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor. It’s also a 13.3 inch tablet — all you have to do is lift the screen away from the keyboard to use the Windows 8 computer in tablet mode.

First introduced about a year ago, the Transformer Book  is finally available for purchase in the US today. You can pick one up from Amazon for $1499. Other retailers are selling for $1450 and up.

Asus Transformer Book TX300CA

The Transformer Book has an Intel Core i7-3517U dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state disk. It features a 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD display and Intel HD graphics.

The tablet portion of the laptop measures 13.4″ x 8.4″ x 0.4″ and weighs about 2.1 pounds. That makes it kind of hefty for a tablet. But if you’re looking for something larger and more powerful than the Clover Trail-based Windows 8 tablets flooding the market this year, the Transformer Book might fit the bill.

When you combine the keyboard and tablet to make a laptop, the system measures 13.3″ x 9.4″ x 1″ and weighs 4.2 pounds.

In laptop mode, you also get an extra battery, a 500GB hard drive, and extra ports, as well as backlit keyboard and nice big touchpad.

Engadget reviewed the computer recently and came away reasonably impressed by everything but the price (and the idea of launching an Ivy Bridge-powered computer just weeks before Intel’s Haswell chips are expected to launch).

  1. Good luck with that Asus. These things appeal to kiddies and kiddies ain’t gonna pay this much.

  2. Would be worth it with a Wacom digitizer and Haswell. Just about perfect.

    Still waiting.

  3. Oh come on, bring CHEAP laptops/ultrabooks with 1080p screen already!

I can buy 1080p tablets starting at 220€ and i5 processor laptops starting at 420€, so at 640€ i SHOULD find some 1080p i5 laptop, but the cheapest one i can find is 950€ – WTF is up with that?!
