Acer working on smaller Windows tablets, 8 inch Iconia W3 hits Amazon for $380

05/03/2013 at 1:59 PM by Brad Linder 6 Comments

Acer may not have said anything about the Iconia W3 tablet with an 8 inch screen and Windows 8 software during today’s launch event for new notebooks and tablets. But the company confirmed to CNET that it’s planning to build Windows 8 tablets with screens smaller than 10 inches.

The Iconia W3 certainly fits the bill. And while it’s not yet available for purchase, the 8 inch Windows 8 tablet showed up at Amazon recently with a list price of $379.99.

Acer Iconia W3

The tablet, which was first leaked last month, is expected to have an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, an 8.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, support for 10-point multitouch input, 32GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM.

It supports 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 and has front and rear cameras, which are each capable of shooting 2MP photos.

The Acer Iconia W3 has a micro USB port, micro HDMI port, and a 3500mAh battery for up to 8 hours of run time.

According to the product listing, the 1.1 pound tablet measures about 8.6″ x 5.3″ x 0.45″ and  comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 software.

I’d buy one if it had a 64 GB option and an active stylus with silo.

Same here. Well, I’d like a 7″ screen or smaller bezels to make the overall size smaller.

Does it have a digital pen and a place to put it? It would have been great if that camera was actually an optical mouse and the buttons were on the back.

I hope it can be charged through USB. If so, it’d be good if it can charge at 10 W. I have a Dell Latitude 10 and can only charge at 2.5 W max not matter what charger you use. This was confirmed by tech support as well.
