Acer is updating its V series notebook lineup with new Aspire V5 notebooks which the company says are 9-percent thinner than last year’s models. Acer is also introducing the new Acer V7 ultrabook which features a similar design, but which packs the latest ultrabook features including an Intel processor, solid state disk, and WiDi wireless display technology.

The new Acer Aspire V5 laptops will come with a choice of 11.6 inch, 14, or 15.6 inch screens.  The larger models will be available with a choice of 1366 x 768 pixel or 1920 x 1080 pixel displays, while the 11.6 inch notebook will only be available with a 1366 x 76 8 pixel display.

Acer will also optional touchscreens for all models, and if you pick up an Acer Aspire V5 laptop with a touchscreen display you’ll also get a backlit keyboard.

The Aspire V5 laptops will be available with Intel quad-core processors or AMD dual-core chips, and optional NVIDIA GeForce GT7XXM or AMD Radeon HD8750 graphics.

For the most part the Acer Aspire V7 ultrabook is the same as the V5, but Acer asys it has a “silky touch” finish to the bottom of the case. Since Intel owns the trademark on the term “ultrabook,” you also won’t be able to get a V7 model with an AMD processor. It will only be available with an Intel chip.

All of the new Acer Aspire V5 and V7 notebooks should be available by the end of May. Prices are expected to start at about $499 for the 11.6 inch model.
