Lenovo could be preparing to bring one of its first Android tablets with a MediaTek processor to the US. The Lenovo IdeaTab S6000 showed up at the FCC this week, suggesting that it could be coming to America soon.
The IdeaTab S6000 is a 10 inch tablet which Lenovo first introduced in February. It measures 0.34 inches thick, weighs about 1.2 pounds, and has a 10 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display with a 178 degree viewing angle.
It’s powered by a 1.2 GHz MediaTek MTK8389 quad-core processor. That’s a chip that’s proven popular with Chinese tablet and phone makers (and Lenovo is a Chinese company), but we haven’t seen it used in many devices widely distributed in the US yet.
Lenovo hasn’t revealed the pricing for this tablet, but the choice of a MediaTek processor is a good indicator that Lenovo doesn’t plan to charge an arm and a leg for the IdeaTab S6000.
The company also plans to bring new 7 inch tablets to market soon, including an IdeaTab A1000 with a dual-core chip, and an IdeaTab A300 with a MediaTek quad-core chip.
