Chinese device maker ICOO plans to launch a new Android tablet with an Allwinner A31 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core chip. But lots of tablets have those chips these days. What makes the ICOOÂ ICOU12GTÂ stand out is the 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display.
Geekbuying reports the upcoming tablet will features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
It has PowerVR SGX 544 graphics and a 5MP camera. It also has a full-sized USB 2.0 port, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
Most Android tablets have 7 or 10 inch displays, although we’re starting to see some models with larger 13 inch screens. But this is one of the first models I’ve seen with an 11.6 inch, 1080p display, which should make it a decent option for watching HD videos.
At 1.4 pounds, the tablet is also reasonably light for a device of its size.
As to chinese tablets…….be careful. I purchased their much heralded Cube U30GT2 which is pretty much useless for my needs due to the poor wifi range.
I’m guessing that unless proved different, the chinese limit their tablet’s wifi range purposely……maybe due to their huge population and not infringing upon a neighbor’s bandwidth.
I will NEVER buy another chinese tablet!
One of the pictures in the tabletsrpint site displays it running Windows. Oops… 😉
VOYO A15 my friends
I hope they release a keyboard dock.
Would Ubuntu Touch run on this device in desktop mode?
The A31 is a fairly new processor so I assume it is not yet supported by Ubuntu Touch.
However, this is an ANdroid device, so Ubuntu Touch will likely support it in time.
I think the Quad Little processor that could is a great balance of battery life and performance. Should be good with a simple recompile. Graphics are half of an A6, still nothing to quibble at.
