Most launcher apps for Android let you arrange shortcuts for your favorite apps on contacts on the home screen and arrange widgets the way you like. Everything.me take a different approach (although you can arrange apps and widgets if you like).

Front and center is in the Everything.me launcher is a search box. Just type or say a search term, and Everything.me completely rearranges your home screen to match your query. Search for Harry Potter, for example, and your background image will change to a Harry Potter-themed picture while the launcher shows apps and website related to reading.

Everything.me

The top of the screen will show apps already installed on your phone, while the bottom section showed icons for related web apps. For instance, if you search for games, but don’t have any games on your phone, you can visit website where you can play games in your browser.

Search for food, but don’t have any food-related apps, and the Yelp, OpenTable, Urban Spoon, and other mobile web apps will appear.

Everything.me doesn’t always get things right. For instance, when I searched for “Thai food,” I would have expected Google Maps to pop up. It didn’t. And when I searched for “music,” for instance, it showed most of the music-related apps on my phone… but not the Now Play music player.

A search for Wreck-It Ralph brought up the Google Play Store and a movie poster… but not the game with that title which is already on my phone.

Still, Everything.me provides an interesting alternative to the standard app launcher for Android. And you can still use it to view all of your apps or arrange your favorites on the home screen.

Even if you’re not ready to replace Nova Launcher or LauncherPro with it just yet, Everything.me might be worth keeping an eye on. It’s available as a free download from the Play Store.

  1. I’ve been using this for 2 days and love it. It’s easier to find apps on my phone and also discover new online apps. There are some bugs and it crashes when typing “clock”. But I’ll most likely buy it.
