The Asus MeMO Pad ME172V is a low-cost Andorid tablet with a 7 inch display. It went on sale in developing markets earlier this year, and now you can pick one up in the US for as little as $149.
Costing about $50 less than a Google Nexus 7, the ME172V has one thing that the Nexus 7 lacks: a microSD card slot.
On the other hand, if you can live without removable storage (or don’t mind buying an external storage device), the Nexus 7 is a better tablet in every way. It has a faster processor, higher resolution display, and more up-to-date software.
The ME172V features a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1 GHz VIA WM8950 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The tablet weighs 13 ounces and measures 7.7″ x 4.6″ x 0.4″ and comes in gray, white, or pink.
Asus is marking the tablet’s North American launch by giving away a few units. You can find out how to enter at the Asus Campus Life website.
