Chip maker Actions Semicuonductor has introduced a new 1.2 GHz dual-core chip aimed at low-cost tablets and other devices. It’s called the ATM7023A and it’s an ARM Cortex-A9 chip.
The new chip supports 1080p HD video playback and encoding, works with android 4.2.2, supports up to 2GB of RAM, and features “quick boot technology” for booting in as little as 10 seconds.
Actions Semiconductor is the same company that makes the ATM7029 quad-core processor which is proving popular with Chinese tablet makers. While it’s not one of the most powerful quad-core chips on the market, it is one of the cheapest.
Odds are that devices with this new dual core variant will be even more affordable.
