The Asus MeMO Pad Smart ME301T is a 10 inch tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, a 1280 x 800 pixel display, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software. It’s sort of what you’d get if you took a Nexus 7 tablet and gave it a larger screen (and replaced Android 4.2 with an Asus-customized version of Android 4.1.

And like the Nexus 7, the Asus MeMO Pad ME301T is a relatively inexpensive tablet. It’s expected to sell for $299 and up when it hits the streets in the US on March 5th.

Update: It looks like the tablet is already available from a number of retailers including J&R and Newegg.

Asus sent me a demo unit to review, and I’ll have some more impressions to share once I dig my way out of a backlog of review units.

But in a nutshell, the tablet appears to have a decent display with wide viewing angles, a responsive multitouch touch panel, support for HD video playback, and basically the kind of performance I’ve come to expect from the Nexus 7… just on a bigger screen.

The MeMo Pad ME301T also has three things the Nexus 7 lacks: a microSD card slot, micro HDMI port, and 5MP rear camera with auto-focus and an LED flash.

The tablet features WiFi, Bluetooth, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. It has a Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, and SRS audio.

Asus says you should get about 7.5 hours of battery life from the 19Whr battery, and the tablet measures 10.4″ x 7.1″ x 0.4″ and weighs 1.3 pounds. It will be available in blue, pink, or white colors.

  1. I went to Office Depot yesterday and found one of these on display. I wanted to buy it, but they didn’t actually have any in stock, just the one on display. “Can I buy the display?” I asked. “Uh.. sure,” said the employee. “We’ll take off 10% because it’s the display. But honestly, we just put that display out this week so it hasn’t been out much at all.” So I ended up paying $269.99!

  2. It appears very similar to my Asus transformer pad tf300t, but it seems thinner and without the ability to connect with the keyboard dock the transformer has. It has pretty much the same specs.

  3. we all know chinese devices have better specs for lower price and manufacturers like asus will never release any upgrades for android.

  4. A screen that big should have a higher resolution. But they’re obviously trying to keep the price down.

    1. i can’t help but think that it should only be selling for 249 when you compare it to the Nexus 7.

    2. It’s not exactly low res but… I just purchased a Nook HD+ for the wife with a 9″ display @ 1920 by 1280 for $269 (dual booting CM10 on a 32 GB micro SD) but it’s dual core, doesn’t have a camera or HDMI out w/o a $40 dollar adapter and it doesn’t come in pink ….
