Budget tablet maker Skytex is showing off a new line of tablets including a 7 inch tablet which will be available soon for $129. It’s called the SkyPad Sp716 and it features a 1.2 GHz Allwinner A14 processor and a 1024 x 600 pixel display.

The Skytex SkyPad SP716 also packs 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot and HDMI output.

It’s not the best looking tablet, or the fastest. It doesn’t have the highest resolution display. And it doesn’t even come with the Google Play Store, instead shipping with the Amazon Appstore and a Skytex branded app store.

But I suppose if you can’t afford to spend $30 extra to get an entry-level Amazon Kindle Fire, the SkyPad SP716 is one of the better 7 inch tablets I’ve seen in the $129 price range. It certainly has a better display than the $98 Idolian IdolPad Plus.

Othernew tablets in the Skytex lineup this year include a 4.3 inch model with a capacitive touchscreen display and a retail price around $79 dollars called the SkyPad SP548 and a 5 inch tablet called the SkyPad SP538.

  1. Another good budget Android tablet is the Novo 7 Legend – which launched in December and features a quality IPS screen display (800×600), MicroSD storage, Android 4.1 O/S, preinstalled with Google Play with access to over 400K Apps, a MicroUSB port, and a processor good enough to handle 3D games — Plus WiFi and Ethernet connection — It’s available in the U.S. through a site called TabletSprint for $99 – Plus TabletSprint adds in $25 in Quality Bonus Apps.

  2. “5 inch tablet called the SkyPad SP538.”

I am curious about that one.

  3. The low end doesn’t need to be the best it just needs to be “more than good enough” In my opinion the jump from 800×480 to 1024×600 as the default display is huge. 800×480 is just a bit low for reading and not enough to make out fine print on manga while 1024x600is more than enough at 7″ for just about anything. Any higher resolution is icing on the cake.
