The Idolian IdolPad Plus is a $98 Android tablet with a 7 inch display and a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. It’s not exactly a good tablet… but for $98 it’s surprisingly not awful.
Budget tablets have come a long way since the Augen GenTouch78.
The IdolPad Plus has a low resolution, 800 x 480 pixel display with less than spectacular viewing angles. But the touchscreen is pretty responsive and the tablet seems to do a reasonably good job of loading web pages and running simple Android apps.
Idolian says the tablet ships with the Google Play Store, but it didn’t seem to be available on the demo model I saw. The tablet is, however, running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It also features a microSD card slot which you can use for extra storage space — something that some higher-priced tablets (I’m looking at you, Nexus 7), lack.
The IdolPad Plus features 802.11b/g WiFi but no Bluetooth or GPS. There’s a front-facing camera, but no rear camera.
“surprisingly not awful”
I’m going to update my resume and add this in there somewhere.
“surprisingly not awful”
Would it pass as a daily driver do you think?
