AirDroid is a free app that lets you manage your Android device by logging into your account from any web browser. Once you’re logged in you can see information about how much storage space is free on your phone, view your call and message logs, browse files, or even copy apps from your phone to your PC to back them up.

Now the developer is beta testing AirDroid v2, and it has at least three nifty new features, including a Find Phone option and the ability to access your phone’s camera from your PC. You can also now use AirDroid over any internet connection. Previous versions only worked if your phone was on the same local network as your PC.

Find Phone will show your phone’s location on a map using GPS or other available location services.

The Camera option lets you use your phone’s camera to snap a photo which is saved directly to your PC.

Other fun features include the ability to stream music from your Android device to your PC, the ability to paste a URL into the web interface to open that link in your default browser on your Android device, and the ability to send files or apps to your device using a similar drag-and-drop interface.

If you’re using 3G or 4G, there’s a file-size limit of 20MB for file transfers, and beta testers have a 1GB data cap.

You can even type a phone number in your web browser to start a phone call on your Android phone.

When I installed the latest beta I had problems logging in unless I gave the app my Twitter credentials, even though you should also be able to associate it with Google or other services. This is beta software, after all (and according to the release notes, you’ll want to proceed with caution, or maybe even backup your device before running AirDroid v2, since it’s still pre-release software which could cause problems with your device or lead to data loss).

AirDroid v2 beta is available as a free download, or you can grab the latest stable version of AirDroid from the Google Play Store.
