The Ainol Novo 7 Elf II is a little tablet with a long name. The 7 inch tablet features a relatively speedy 1.5 GHz dual core Amlogic AM8726-M6 ARM Cortex-A9 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.

Ainol Novo 7 Elf II

Other highlights include HDMI output, a CPU mode tool that lets you adjust the tablet for performance or power savings, Android 4.0 software and support for the Google Play Store.

On the other hand, this tablet has one of the worst screens I’ve seen on a 7 inch tablet. It’s an 800 x 480 pixel display with awful viewing angles. The screen also seems to scratch very easily. I’ve had a tablet sitting on my desk for a few weeks, but I’ve barely touched the thing — I haven’t even bothered to login to my Google account, and it already has some visible scratches.

At least the tablet does support multi-touch gestures including pinch-to-zoom.

I’m not sure I’d recommend spending money on this tablet. But you may not have to — because we’ve got two to giveaway for free, thanks to the folks at W2Comp, which sells the Ainol Novo 7 Elf II for $130.

This weekend we’re going to give away the model I already opened, so expect a lightly used device with a few scratches. The unopened model will be included in a future giveaway as part of the Liliputing 2012 Holiday Giveaway.

Inside the box you’ll find the tablet, a capacitive stylus, a USB charging and sync cable, and a small pouch that you can slip over the tablet to try and protect it from scratches.

  1. Am I too late? Been enjoying your blog. Thanks for all the hard work.
    Bret

  2. I purchased the Ainol Novo 7 crystal for my daughter and I’m very impressed. So yeah I would like to win the Elf II for myself and that way I will have a good excuse for my wife why we have 2 now Ainol Tabs in the house now

  3. This would be a great tablet then for my younger kids to fiddle with an learn on. So count me in…Thanks for reviews and the giveaways!

  4. Thanks so much for this giveaway. This tablet looks like it’ll be an asset for school/traveling to NYC via train during my commute, and I’d love to win it.

  5. well this could be my triple perfect chistmas gift..the reasons are: my bithday, christmas gift and I need it for college…thanks guys of liliputing for share happiness to people on this hard times… greetings to all!!

  6. I would love to win a tablet, I really need to get one and catch up with the times!

  7. always want to have my first tablet, could definitely find some use for it!

  8. It would be a blessing even with the limitations. My wife and I wouldn’t have to share a reader! Thanks.

  9. Well, at least it isn’t a Coby or a Pandigital tablet. My Polaroid PMID701C running gingerbread recently bit the dust as the internal wifi antenna no longer can pickup signals at all. The screen resolution wouldn’t bother me either as my eyes haven’t seen anything higher than 800 by 480. I’m done buying cheap non Google branded tablets by cheap US companies made in china. I’m only going to buy from Chinese companies such as Ainol, etc as the quality is much better than most of the cheap US brands such as the Coby, Proscan, Polaroid, Uniden, Velocity cruz, Kocaso, Craigs, Sylvanias, etc. With Ainol I’ve heard that you get more bang for your buck and at least this tablet is dual core. Most of the US tablets under $200 are single core 1ghz allwinner a10s. Thanks for all the hard work you do in providing us with this wonderful site. I check this site daily for all the latest news in the world of android and mobile computing.. Can’t wait to see your future Ainol Captain review and possible giveaway…? hehe! By the way, I always find it funny how Chinese companies are able to release their tablets with the google play store whereas US companies except for Dopo aren’t google play supported, except if you hack them. If I won, at least I wouldn’t have to hack this tablet like the polaroid.. Will definitely be entering the Chuwi if I don’t get picked for this.

  10. Not sure I would ever buy this tablet, but I’d be foolish not to take it for free. 🙂

  11. I wouldn’t mind a tablet for my bus commute from Denver to Boulder each day! Thanks for the great site, Liliputing!

  12. Scratches and all, I’d give it a whirl. Looks like a neat gadget and I don’t own a tablet…Thanks for the chance. shel704 at aol dot com

  13. I’ve been wundering if these cheap tablets are any good, and this would be a great way to find out.

  14. I’d love this Elf tablet! I tried a coby tablet once, but it was too Goblinoid (Goblins being the enemies of elves, obviously.) Having this would make battling goblins much easier!

  15. An Ainol sounds good to me. Is a Disqus account required to enter these drawings?

  16. I’ve been looking for an Android Tablet for a while now and believe a giveaway to be the fastest route to obtaining one! 🙂 Please put my name in the hat.

  17. Love the site, thanks for all your hard work. Could make good use of the tablet.

  18. This looks like a great device and a great price. My wife needs a portable device and this would make a great gift for. By the way…I really like this site.

  19. Count me in, although I doubt that I will be more than one of the count.

  20. Love your website! great stuff on small pc’s. I could use some swag 😀

  21. I love reading your reviews of even the lower end tabs. Now that you’re giving them away, I hope to see fewer people complaining as to why you bother. Some of you all suck.

  22. Hi Brad, thanks for doing this giveaway. Liliputing is one of my top sites (along with Mobiputing and Slashdot).

  23. Oh wow. I almost bought this thing last year, but then I saw the resolution… I’d take one for free though.

  24. I’d love to have this tablet. it’s lousy screen is made up for by the hdmi output.

  25. Brad, no sob story here, just would be a great addition to the household..thanks for running the competition..

  26. my children (12 of them) need it for school, we don’t have money to buy our own,,or food or clothing,,sniff-sniff

  27. Tablet looks like something one of those elves might leave under my tree…
Would make a great web surfing/e-reader tablet for sure.

  28. With or without scratches, i would take care of this tablet like it was a .. tablet! It would be supernice to win one! 🙂

  29. Looks like an interesting little tablet – 1 gig of ram is unusual to see in a tablet from a lesser known manufacturer – ususally they only give 512 megs or less

  30. This tablet may not be the best but it certainly would make a great gift for a kid. If it scratches too easy it could be left connected to the TV for a media center. Thanks Liliputing.

  31. I wanna use this ainol. (I pay $20 or so in shipping costs to Brazil)

  32. Howdy, my lady and I are expecting a baby soon. This tablet looks like the perfect little tool for the kid to learn and play. Greetings from Norway

  34. Count me in, nice tablet :-). Great idea with giveaways – cheers mate.

    1. Hey Mike. I’ve tried to contact you twice using the email address tied to your Disqus account, but no dice. You were randomly selected as the winner — so hit me up using the Liliputing contact box with your address, and I’ll ship you the package.

But if I don’t hear from you by the end of 12/5/2012, I’ll have to pick another winner.

  35. I would love to have a tablet! I’m pretty jealous of everyone that has one! lol

  36. Ainol Novo 7 is already a capable tablet. It can perform several tasks. And I don’t mind the few scratches. I hope I’d be chosen for this. Thank you W2Comp and Liliputing!

  37. I’d love to get my hands on this great tablet. With the right rom, one’s experience can be amazing.

  38. I’m in, thanks. Keep up the excellent work on this site. Saved me some hassles

  39. It ain’t Powerball, but the odds are better. I’ll give it a go.

  40. I’ve been interested in checking out one of these generic tablets

  41. So this time no option for paying shipping cost for non-US residents? If there is, please consider this my entry 🙂

  42. what the heck, we could use that at work (library) to demo ebooks. It doesn’t take much to demo ebooks.

  43. One comment.

PS. You shouldn’t hold it against me that I was one of the co-winners of the $588 million Powerball lottery.

  44. I love these kinds of drawings!! And thanks for all your info and recommendations!!

  45. Interesting that it’s dual core but has lousy resolution. Maybe it’s intended more to be used with the HDMI, kinda of a super-sized version of an Android stick/box.

  46. Call me Santa, but I wan’t my own elf. I’ll pay for shipping from the North Pole if need be. Thanks.

  47. I’ll take it off your hands. Probably runs circles around the Pandigital Novel that I have currently…

  48. Thanks W2Comp and Liliputing!! I’ll enjoy this very much when I win!!

  49. I love the sort-of complimentary review (the “yeah, I guess I could see why people would want it…”) for this tablet. I’ll put in for this, on behalf of all the tabletless.

  50. I like to have this tablet . ! I am not from US but I can handle the shipping cost 🙂

  51. Microsoft said they may have entered the tablet biz too late. Ya think?

  52. I imagine it’s US only because of the battery, USPS has banned shipping batteries intercontinentally, which I imagine Liliputing is using to ship said devices.

Also, I’m throwing my hat in, I would have liked to win that MK802 II but this tablet would be nice too.

  53. Ok, I’m entered. My kids would love this should I be lucky enough to win!

  54. would love to have it for traveling…Ill take a shot a it…see if I can do anything with it

  55. The successor to this tablet was the Ainol Crystal, which had a much better screen. I think that tablet is soon to be replaced, so this one’s pretty old now. Still, I’d take it if it’s free.

  56. Hat in the in ring for this funky elf thing. Better odds than the lottery by far!

  57. Sounds interesting, I suppose a dual core 7 inch tablet with a capacitive screen must be worth a quick comment.

  58. Looks like something interesting to try. Better than not having one at all. 🙂

  59. Nice looking tablet even with the screen shortcomings. I’m interested in winning it.

  60. The Ainol Novo 7 Fire/Flame is similar but with a 1280*800 IPS screen. I had one on order, but it got cancelled due to a shortage of the screens. This would be a fantastic consolation prize!

  61. I’ve been trying to buy an Ainol Novo 7 fire/flame – similar specs but with an IPS 1280*800. Sadly, my order was cancelled because there is a shortage on the screens. This would be a great consolation prize!

  62. Your review might be poor, but if I happen to win it for free. . .

  63. Perfect for either a kid or an elderly person ( low resolution for the screen)
