Japan Display Inch is showing off a new set of display prototypes aimed at phones, tablets, and automotive systems. The most unusual is probably the company’s 7 inch tablet screen, which features a high resolution 2560 x 1600 pixel display.
That’s 431 pixels per inch. By comparison, an Apple iPad with a 9.7 inch, 2048 x 1536 pixel “Retina” display has 264 pixels per inch, and the Samsung Nexus 10 tablet with a 10.1 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel screen shows about 300 pixels per inch.
In other words, text, images, and other graphics should look really good on a tablet with Japan Display’s new 7 inch screen. The company also says the displays have 2000:1 contrast ratio and use 50 percent less power than its existing displays.
Japan Display is also showing off prototypes of new 5 inch and 12.2 inch 1080p displays for smartphones and cars, respectively.
There’s no word on if or when we’ll see any of these screens in actual products, but I suppose it’s nice to have confirmation that it’s possible to cram that many pixels into a small space.

how about some progress on battery tech. Anyone?
They’ll be shipping new HHHD tablets with a magnifying glass soon, just so you can actually see how much more HD their tablets are than the other guy’s.
How about we start seeing some decent 12″, 14″ and 15″ HD IPS screens that don’t cost more than an entire HD tablet in a mid-range laptop sometime soon?
