Developer jcsullins has updated his unofficial build of CyanogenMod 10 for the HP TouchPad. The software brings Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to HP’s discontinued 9.7 inch tablet. We’ve seen that before — but the latest build adds support for audio.

Hardware video decoding also seems to be working. I had no problems streaming HD videos from YouTube and Netflix.

HP TouchPad with CyanogenMod

This is still a pre-release, experimental build of CyanogenMod 10. There’s no support for the tablet’s front-facing camera, and you may run into other bugs. (Interestingly, there is a build of CyanogenMod 9 with partial support for the camera, but it’s based on the older Android 4.0 operating system).

Update: It looks like camera support could be coming soon.

RootzWiki forum member RolandDeschain79 also says he had problems installing the latest CM10 build using ClockworkMod Recovery — although I had no trouble at all flashing the update using TWRP.

Either way, it’s probably a good idea to use TWRP or ClockworkMod to backup your device before installing the latest build.

Installing CyanogenMod 10 on the HP TouchPad

You can download the latest jcsullins experimental build of CyanogenMod from goo.im.  If you plan to run the Google Play Store and other Google apps such as Google Maps or Gmail, you’ll also want to download those from goo.im or from RootzWiki.

Once you’ve got those files, you can follow our guide for installing CyanogenMod on the HP TouchPad.

If this is your first time installing Android on a tablet that’s only running webOS, make sure to start at the beginning of the guide. Just make sure you’re using the cm-10-20121105-EXPERIMENTAL-tenderloin-FOR_LIMITED_TESTING_ONLY.zip file instead of any earlier builds of CyanogenMod.

If you’ve previously installed CyanogenMod or another version of Android, scroll down to the section on “Upgrading from CyangenMod 7” and follow the instructions from there.

thanks RolandDeschain79!

  4. You guys should put up an updated review to the most recent/current build of cm10 on the touch pad as it has been a while and since I look forward to your reviews it will be much appreciated. Thank you.

How do I decide whether in UPGRADE to cm9 or to cm10?
Where are the files for UPGRADING to cm9 or cm10?
(I have seen files for cm9 and cm10 but I don’t think they are for UPGRADES from cm7. I think they are for clean installs.)

  7. Does anyone know how to change the timeout waiting parameter in moboot?

  8. I’m finally trying to install this from scratch, and I get a “device not found message”

    1. OK, It was my fault. I should have watched the idiots guide to installing, and should be a must for everyone first installing it.

      1. Ok, I got it to work now, but when it boots up into Cynagenmod, it says android keyboard not working and when i look at the settings and about, it says 4.0.3. How can I get it to go to 4.1?

  9. I have loaded and am running the latest version of CM10 preview on my Touchpad and is is better than anything before including the CM9 with nightly.
Thank you JC Sullins and anyone else involved!
BTW when is the next up date? The last was mid-December and I am excited about this version!

    1. The two devices have very different hardware. In order to run CM10 on a Pre, you’d need to modify the operating system to support the processor, graphics chip, camera, and other hardware in the phone.

  10. Update the New leaked Gapps for Android 4.2 works with this build of CM10.

Checkout my video “How to install Android 4.2 Gapps on Any Jelly Bean 4.1 CM10 or AOKP Device” For all the info and download links. CM10 on the HP TouchPad just keeps getting better.

  13. Brad, to update from CM9 to CM10, do you recommend just installing the .zip or running ACMEInstaller2? The instructions seem vague on that point, although it could be that I’m on my first cup of coffee still. Great timing, btw. I brought my TP to work for the first time in months hoping to install the CM9 10/28 nightly, but this is shinier. -John

    1. I had no problems just installing the zip using TWRP. Your results may be different though… so I’d recommend making a backup using TWRP or ClockworkMod first.

      1. Yes, always a backup. 🙂 Installing the zips worked great, and everything is good so far, including gapps, network, video, everything I’ve tried. it’s beautiful.

        1. Glad it worked! Roland said he had problems installing from ClockworkMod, which is why I advised caution… but I had no problems at all with TWRP.

          1. Great overview as always Brad. I would highly caution people when flashing directly from CM9-CM10. I experienced BSOD and locking up. However my TouchPad is cluttered with a lot of apps and data, so this might affect the upgrade. The ACMEInstaller 3 gives jelly bean 100MB more space so you may run into problems overtime when flashing over CM9. I did the full upgrade with the ACMEInstaller 3. This allows you to keep your full setup and should help to prevent future problems. I made a Nandroid backup of this setup and now I can easily restore CM9 or CM10 at will. When a nightly finally arrives for CM10 I should be able to flash that right over my current preview CM10 setup. Always make a Nandroid backup, best way to be safe. Better safe than sorry:)

          2. I went from CM9 to CM10 using CWM. Did a factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik cache. So far, all is good. Lovin JB!
