Pre-order Acer’s 10, 11.6 inch Windows 8 tablets for $600 and up

10/12/2012 at 1:30 PM by Brad Linder 2 Comments

Acer’s first Windows 8 tablets are now available for pre-order. The company basically has two models: a 10 inch tablet with an Intel Atom Clover Trail CPU or an 11.6 inch model with an Intel Core i series Ivy Bridge CPU. But a quick scan of Newegg’s pre-order pages show at least 5 models that will launch in late October or early November.

Acer Iconia W510

Acer Iconia Tab W510

The Iconia Tab W510 features a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z2760 dual core CPU.

The tablet features 2GB of RAM and a 64GB solid state disk. It has 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a micro HDMI port, micro USB port, microSD card slot, and audio jack.

It features an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera and runs Microsoft Windows 8.

Acer will offer this tablet in two configurations:

  • Acer Iconia W510 tablet for $599.99
  • Aer Iconia W510 tablet + keyboard dock for $749.99

Without the keyboard dock, the tablet gets up to 9 hours of battery life. When docked, Acer says you should be able to get up to 18 hours.

The tablet weighs 1.27 pounds, while the tablet + dock weighs 2.8 pounds.

Acer Iconia W700

Acer’s larger Windows 8 tablet is also more powerful. The Iconia W700 has an 11.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display and a choice of Intel Core i3 or Core i5 Ivy Bridge processors.

Acer Iconia W700

All models feature 4GB of RAM, Windows 8, 1 USB 3.0 ports, 802.11/a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and micro HDMI, audio jacks.

Interestingly, the Iconia W700 has a 5MP rear camera and 720p front-facing camera, which seems like a step down from the camera configuration on the W510 tablet.

Acer will offer 3 models at launch:

  • Acer Iconia W700 w/Intel Core i3, 64GB SSD, Windows 8 for $799.99
  • Acer Iconia W700 w/Intel Core i5, 64GB SSD, Windows 8 for $899.99
  • Acer Iconia W700 w/Intel Core i5, 128GB SSD for, Windows 8 Pro $1049.99

All three models are expected to come with a docking cradle and Bluetooth keyboard — but I don’t see any mention of those accessories in the Newegg product listings.

does it have USB ports? if it does, it’l like a laptop and a tablet at the same time! if it doesn’t, truly useless to me

For the W510, it has a micro USB port and the keyboard dock provides full size USB port.

The W700 is larger and more powerful… So it has a USB 3.0 port, and the tablet dock increases that to 3.
