When Lenovo unveiled the IdeaPad Yoga in January, there was nothing like it on the market. The touchscreen display which could fold back 360 degrees until it rested on the back of the keyboard was something new.

Now that the Yoga is set to launch in a few days, the design’s starting to look a little less unique. Samsung showed off a Yoga clone in June. And NEC is getting ready to launch one in Japan next month.

NEC LaVie Y

The NEC LaVie Y is a notebook with an 11.6 inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 64GB solid state disk, and an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor. It runs Windows RT, and it’s due to hit Japan on November 22nd.

Like the IdeaPad Yoga, the NEC laptop has special hinges that let you push the screen back 360 degrees so you can hold the computer like a tablet.

Since the LaVie Y runs Windows RT, it’s probably closer to the new Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga RT than the Yoga model Lenovo first showed off. That version has an Intel processor, a 13 inch display, and Windows 8 software.

It’s unlikely we’ll see the NEC LaVie Y in the US anytime soon.
