AT&T has announced plans to offer 4G-capable Windows tablets from Asus and Samsung this fall. The news comes on the heels of the announcement that AT&T will also be carrying Samsung’s 4G capable… camera.

Asus VivoTab RT

AT&T’s first Windows RT tablet is the Asus VivoTab RT. This is a 10 inch tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 32GB of storage, and 4G LTE connectivity.

The tablet has a 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It weighs 1.1 pounds and measures a third of an inch thick.

The VivoTab RT has a front-facing 2MP camera and an 8MP camera on the back. It comes with Microsoft Office 2013 preloaded, but as a Windows RT tablet it will only be able to run Windows apps designed for devices with ARM-based processors. That rules out most older Windows apps unless they’ve been updated for Windows RT.

Asus will offer an optional keyboard dock, although AT&T isn’t saying if it will offer the keyboard option.

Samsung ATIV Smart PC

If you’re looking for a tablet with a full-fledged Windows experience and support for legacy apps, the ATIV Smart PC features a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Clover Trail dual core processor and Windows 8 operating system.

The tablet has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and 4G LTE connectivity.

It measures 0.4 inches thick and weighs 1.6 pounds and includes a detachable keyboard dock. Unlike the VivoTab RT, AT&T does confirm that it will offer ATIV Smart PC with a keyboard dock.

Pricing and availability

AT&T isn’t saying. Both tablets should be available by the holiday season, but there’s no word on how much they’ll cost.

  1. VivoTab RT doesn’t come with MS Office 2103, it comes with MS Office 2013.
Some more details on Windows RT tablets can be found in my blog https://fineoils.blogspot.com

As for “budget” data plans on RT models, it may happen. MS Surface for $199 idea isn’t totally killed, is it?

  2. I’d like to know if they’re offering different data plans for Windows 8 (regular more expensive PC data plan) and Windows RT (cheaper tablet data plan). It’s been a while since I looked at AT&T’s mobile broadband plans but last I checked they had separate plans for desktop OS devices and mobile OS tablets.
