Later this month Amazon will open its Kindle Owners’ Lending Library to customers in the UK, Germany, and France. That’s Amazon’s program that lets Amazon prime subscribers borrow up to one book a month for now additional charge.

Up until now the Lending Library had only been open to Kindle owners in the US.

Amazon Kindle Owners' Lending Library

Amazon is offering access to 200,000 titles at launch. Amazon shares $2.29 with an author every time one of their books is borrowed, which is a pretty good way to get authors on-board with the program.

In order to borrow books you’ll need to be a Prime subscriber and you’ll need a Kindle eReader or Kindle Fire tablet. Amazon doesn’t let you borrow books using the Kindle apps for Android, iOS, PC, or other platforms.

Prime memberships also include free next-day delivery in France, Germany, and the UK. Membership costs £49 per year in the UK, €49 per year in France, and €29 in Germany.
