The UG802 Android mini PC seems to be following a path blazed by the MK802 before it. Both of these are tiny PC-on-a-stick devices that look like big USB thumb drives.

But they actually include processors, memory, storage, and input and output ports, letting you connect a monitor, mouse, or keyboard and use them like little, low power Android computers.

When the UG802 first went on sale last month, retailers were charging around $89 for the mini PC. Now you can pick one up for just $69.

UG802 Android mini PC

The UG802 features a Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. It features a microSD card slot, HDMI and USB ports, and built-in WiFi.

The CPU should make the little box noticeably faster than the MK802, which has a single core ARM Cortex-A8 chip. The advantage to picking up an MK802 at this point is that there are already a variety of Linux-based operating systems including Fedora and Ubuntu which have been ported to run on the platform. That hasn’t happened yet with the UG802, but I suspect it’s just a matter of time.

Like the MK802, the UG802 is manufactured in China and sold by a number of different distributors. And like the MK802, the pricing seems to vary pretty greatly from one retailer to the next.

A number of sellers are offering the UG802 at AliExpress for $69 and up — but be careful to make sure you’re getting what you pay for. Some AliExpress sellers have a habit of writing misleading information in their headlines or product descriptions (which is why you get a lot of listings that have both UG802 and MK802 in the headlines).

Meanwhile PandaWill is selling the device for $69, and offering lower wholesale prices for resellers.

OvalElephant has also knocked a few bucks off its price. The company had been charging $90 for the UG802, but now you can get one for $87.

  1. Hi there.

My device (ug802 mini pc) bricked when i installed xbmc.

I then flashed it and loaded android 4.2 jelly bean, and it worked fine except for the fact that the wifi won’t turn on, at all. So I’m trying to get it back to android 4.0 ice cream sandwich where the wifi worked fine, but i can’t find a link to download the software. Any ideas? Preferably an SD card update

  2. DON’T BUY from pandawill… They don’t honour Dead On Arrivals. They’ll just call it Externally damaged.

  3. I ordered this device from https://www.gadgetgreats.com and it came in today but it’s defected, the usb power port fell out …. So I email the site to see how are they honor their products … I’ll update once I hear from the company … I have always hesitant about Chinese product but took the plunge this time and … So beware.

    1. So I just got an email from Gadgetgreat.com instructed me to send it back and they will sent out a replacement…. will see how it goes.

      1. Just an update, Gadgetgreat has finally sent me the replacement and it works perfectly…

        1. good to know that they honor their warranty. So Thanks for letting us know, I might order it from them.
Edit: weird I found a lot of horror reviews about this website like it’s scam and they charge you you without shipping anything to you!.

  4. I just received my EQUISO – this thing is AMAZING totally worth the wait. I have used Roku and Apple TV and the team of Equiso built something that blows the others away. Great job EQUISO Thanks!!!!

    1. @Jordan: Where are you located? Are you a Kickstarter backer, or did you pre-order on eBay or Amazon? Just curious, because the first shipment of Equisos is supposed to be in a customs warehouse in L.A.

  5. Since the unit is so small I assume that best or should I say most comfortable way of getting HD signal on screen is streaming via wifi (NAS, home network). Am I right ? Is wifi speed good enough to watch HD movies without problems? Can anyone comment ?

  6. I would immediately order 2 units if it was capable of running standalone Ubuntu or Ubuntu for Android.

An Android-only device is far less valuable and cannot support my use-cases.

Rockchip has a history of Linux-unfriendly behaviour (no documentation, no GPL source-code released…etc)

  7. I noticed this one the other night when looking at the MK802 type 2. Does anyone know how this one handles heat? The Equiso folks actually downgraded their processor a little, but are claiming it doesn’t get nearly as hot as comparable models. But since the Equiso keeps getting delayed, I’m tempted to pick one of these up.

    1. The unit I have stays cool even while decoding 1080p and doing heavy 3D. The outer case is dense and full of fine vent holes. Having blown an original flavor MK802 I can attest that this is a much better design.

It still doesn’t do HD well on XBMC yet, but it plays flawlessly on it’s own player. In general, the processor performance is remarkable, although some benchmark apps do crash. Definitely the best of the stick style units in terms of horsepower. The AMLogic TV box units do blow them away on XBMC just because of documented hardware.

      1. If you’re having problems with benchmarking apps crashing(like antutu) try switching to a power supply with more power.
My ug802’s would crash when running antutu on a 5v/0.7a charger. I switched to a 5v/1a charger and no more crashing.
Right now I just use it plugged into my usb3 port since it’s very close by.
