While Amazon introduced three new eReaders today, the company isn’t quite done with some of its older models. In addition to the new Kindle, Kindle Paperlight, and Kindle Paperlight 3G, you can still pick up the Kindle Keyboard from Amazon.com.

But there’s something missing from the Kindle website: Any mention of the DX.

Kindles

The Kindle DX has been around for a few years, and it’s one of the only eBook readers with a 9.7 inch E Ink display. It has a high resolution 1200 x 824 pixel screen, and it’s closer to the size of a nice big hardcover book than the 6 inch eReaders that have taken over the market in recent years.

Amazon does still have some Kindle DX models in stock, and you can pick one up for $379 — but you can literally buy more than 5 standard 6 inch Kindle devices for that price. Amazon hasn’t bothered to lower the starting price of the DX.

Now the company isn’t even promoting the device at Amazon.com/kindle, and The Verge reports the company is “pretty much done” with the Kindle DX, although it may still be available at full price for a while.

The Kindle Keyboard, on the other hand, continues to be featured front and center on Amazon’s Kindle website. The current model has a 6 inch display, a QWERTY keyboard below the screen, and 3G wireless connectivity. It’s available for $139 and up.

One reply on “Amazon still selling Kindle Keyboard, phasing out the Kindle DX”

  1. This is bad news for those of us who have been waiting for some time for an e-ink device with an 8.5″ x 11″ screen for reading academic papers and technical texts at native size.
