Popular BitTorrent app µTorrent is now available for Android, making it easy to download anything from movies to apps to operating systems on your Android phone or tablet. To be clear, µTorrent Beta for Android isn’t a remote control app that lets you manage downloads running on your PC. It’s a full-fledged BitTorrent app for your Android device.

You can use the app to find torrents using the built-in search tool, or to download torrent links from the web browser or other apps.

The mobile µTorrent app also lets you subscribe to RSS feeds or play content as it’s downloading.

If you don’t want to let the app use up all of your bandwidth, you can set upload and download speed limits. You can also determine whether µTorrent should automatically launch when your phone or tablet boots.

While this is technically still beta software, it seems to work pretty well on my Google Nexus 7 tablet — except it seems to be a bit of a resource hog. When downloading files at fast speeds, I found that switching apps and accessing the internet using other apps on the tablet started to feel kind of slow.

  1. I installed it and tried it out. It seems to work fine, but as it stands now, I still prefer the greater number of options available in tTorrent.

  2. Google really made slapping the “beta” tag on software popular. There are so many apps in the Play Store with the word “beta” in the name.

  3. adownloader also slows everything down while downloading…. maybe it’s common for these torrent downloading apps.

    1. It is. Try downloading a well seeded torrent on an Intel Atom based device and see the high CPU usage. That’s for a Bittorrent client that’s been in development for years. I’m sure these Android clients aren’t exactly well optimized yet either which would make things worse.
