Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 launching in August

08/06/2012 at 8:28 AM by Brad Linder 1 Comment

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is an Android tablet with a 10.1 inch display and an active digitizer that lets you write or draw on the screen with a digital pen. You can also use your fingers to navigate, but the pen is one of the key features that sets the Galaxy Note series apart from the competition.

Samsung first introduced the 10.1 inch tablet in February. Half a year later, the tablet is ready to launch. Samsung says the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be available around the world starting this month.

The company is also confirming that the Galaxy Note 10.1 will feature a 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, making it one of the most powerful Android devices available.

Samsung has also baked in support for running two different apps side-by-side. While Android has always supported “multitasking,” that’s typically meant that one app can continue to run in the background while another is in the foreground, taking up the whole screen. Samsung’s “multiscreen” feature lets you interact with two apps on the screen at once.

The tablet features a 5MP rear camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 host support, and an IR port that lets you use the tablet as a universal remote control.

It will be available with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage. The Galaxy Note 10.1 measures 11.5″ x 7.1″ x 0.35″ and weighs about 1.3 pounds.

Samsung will offer WiFi-only, 3G HSPA, and 4G LTE models. The first models will launch in the US, UK, Korea, and Germany. The company will release the tablet in additional countries starting later this month.

Official pricing information isn’t yet available, but at least one retailer has already started taking orders for $750.

Samsung is holding a US launch event for the Galaxy Note on August 15th. But the folks at CNET Asia already got a chance to spend some time with the tablet. You can hit up their website for some hands-on photos.
