Sony may be preparing to launch a next-generation Android tablet. While the company hasn’t announced a new tablet, a new device called the Sony SGPT1211 showed up at the FCC this morning. It’s described as a Tablet Device, and has a model number that’s suspiciously similar to the one for the Sony Tablet S.

Sony Tablet
The Sony Tablet S is a tablet with a 9.4 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor. Its claims to fame are its unusual wedge-shaped design, and the ability to run some PlayStation games — although Sony is starting to open up its PlayStation suite to non-Sony devices.

It’s tough to tell from the documents currently available on the FCC website whether the new tablet will have the same shape and size as the Tablet S, or even whether it will run Android. This could be a Windows tablet or something else — although the model number would seem to suggest at least some common features with the Sony Tablet S.

  1. Wow, quick work! I just saw this myself and was about to send you a tip! Sounds like it would be the successor to the Tablet S.

    1. I actually found it a few hours ago, but had some other stories I wanted to push out first. 🙂 (I’m not sure how much longer that $140 Iconia Tab A100 in today’s daily deals post will be available).
