Casio is no stranger to mobile computing devices, and V-T500 rugged Android tablet carries on the tradition. It’s a ten-inch tablet that’s aimed at users in demanding work environments where drop protection (up to one meter) and moisture and dust resistance are absolute musts.

Inside the shock-absorbing casing you’ll find a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage (along with an SD/microSD expansion slot). Both the front and rear-facing cameras utilize 5MP sensors, and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC are supported. Rounding out the connectivity options are a full-sized USB and mini USB port, mini HDMI output. The V-T500 also features a user-replaceable battery, which Casio says will provide 10 to 12 hours of use.

One the software side, you’ll find Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed, along with support for a bevy of secure enterprise authentication methods.

In addition to the Wi-Fi only V-T500E, Casio is also offering the V-T500GE, which adds HSPA/UMTS/EDGE and GPRS support. Both ship with a hand belt and neck strap to prevent the kind of drops the tablets are designed to shrug off and keep them at the ready. Optional accessories include a digitizer pen, inductive charging and sync cradles, additional screen protector, and vehicle charger.

Casio hasn’t announced a release date or pricing for the V-T500 models, but it’s a safe bet that they’ll come at a premium — as do most ruggedized mobile computing devices.

  1. I quite like the look of that UI/skin. Sort of like a cross between Honeycomb/ICS and Windows Phone.

  2. Very nice device – should see some use in hospitals and warehouses. I have fond memories of Casio portables going back to my old Cassiopeia E-100 back in 1999. Took that thing with me everywhere I went.
