There’s a good chance Asus and Google will unveil a new “Nexus” tablet at the Google I/O conference later this month. We already know that Asus is working on an inexpensive 7 inch Android tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, and rumors have been floating around for months suggesting that it will be the next device to get the Google ‘Nexus” moniker.

Now the folks at Android.HD blog have uncovered evidence that someone at Google is already trying out the camera on the Asus Nexus 7. A few photos have been uploaded to Google’s Picasa Web Albums showing uninspiring images of a ceiling — but the EXIF data for the pictures says they were taken on an Asus Nexus 7 device.

Asus Nexus 7 Photo

The photos first showed up in Somit Bh’s Google+ feed.

According to the EXIF data, they were taken using a camera with a 2.4 aperture on an Asus device called the Nexus 7. That camera sounds a lot like the one found in the latest high-end tablets from Asus.

Although the 1280 x 960 pixel photo resolution is a little on the low side, it’s likely that the pictures were resized when they were uploaded to Picasa.

There’s a chance the data is fake, but Asus has been promising to deliver an Android 4.0 tablet for $249 or less since January, and it’s likely it will be based on NVIDIA’s Kai reference design for low cost tablets.
