It’s been six months since Acer unveiled the Aspire S5 line of ultrabooks, but up until now the company hadn’t mentioned a price or release date. Now the Microsoft Store is taking pre-orders for what looks like a top-of-the-line S5 model, with a price tag of $1399.
For the more budget-conscious Acer ultrabook fans, Microsoft is also taking pre-orders of the Acer spire TimelineU M5-481T for $729.
Both thin and light laptops are set to ship on June 25th.
The Aspire S5 features a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, an Intel Core i7-3417U processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid state disk.
It measures 12.8″ x 9″ x 0.6″ and weighs 2.7 pounds, has a 3 cell battery for up to 6.5 hours of run time, and 2 USB 3.0 ports, a Thunderbolt ports, HDMI, and DisplayPort.
The TimelineU M5-481T has an Intel Core i5-3317U processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive with a 20GB solid state disk for cache.
This model actually gets better battery life, with up to 8 hours of run time. But it’s not as thin or light as the Aspire S5, measuring 13.4″ x 9.7″ x 0.8″ and weighing 4.3 pounds.
On the other hand, it has a larger 14 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a DVD drive. What it doesn’t have is an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card — something you’ll find in pricier models in the Acer M5 family.
