The Gigabyte U2440 is a thin and light notebook with a 3rd generation Intel Core processor, NVIDIA graphics, and a starting price of about $699 — making the U2440 cheaper than most ultrabooks that offer discrete graphics.

It’s arguable whether the U2440 is actually an ultrabook. It features a 14 inch display, measures 0.85 inches thick, and weighs 4.2 pounds. But it’s still reasonably portable by old-school notebook standards.

The notebook certainly isn’t as small or light as the Gigabyte X11 or as powerful as the Gigabyte U2442. But both of those laptops have starting prices of $999, making the Gigabyte U2440 a better bargain if you don’t mind the extra weight.

The laptop features a 1366 x 768 pixel display, an Ivy Bridge processor, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics. It will be available with 2 to 4GB of RAM, up to 750GB of hard drive space, and an optional 32GB solid state disk.

Gigabyte includes 2 USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, HDMI, Ethernet, mic, and headphone jacks, as well as stereo speakers and a 1.3MP webcam and mic.

The U2440 supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.

It features an aluminum case that measures 13.2″ x 9.5″ x 0.85″ and weighs 4.23 pounds with a 4-cell battery. There’s also an optional 6-cell battery which will add a little weight.

Gigabyte plans to bring the U2440 to market by the end of June.
