With a price tag of $599.99, the new jetBook Color Deluxe might be one of the most expensive eReaders available. But it also offers a number of features you won’t find on other devices.
The jetBook Color Deluxe has a 9.7 inch, 1600 x 1200 pixel Triton color E Ink display, which makes it one of the few eReaders with a low power color ePaper screen. But that’s true of the original jetBook Color which only costs $500.
What makes the Deluxe model different is the included C-Pen text scanner.
It’s a handheld scanner that can capture text line by line. Unlike a flatbed scanner or form-feeding scanner, you can also capture text on curved or otherwise uneven surfaces… although it will be slow going since you have to wave the C-Pen over text a little bit at a time.
Still, it’s a mobile solution that lets you scan just the words or passages that you need, and it can recognize a variety of fonts and languages.
When paired with a jetBook eReader, the C-Pen lets you scan text from a physical book into your jetBook Color eReader which is an interesting way to take and organize notes. Imagine it as a high-tech highlighter.
