Verizon Wireless has announced that it will begin offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 on Thursday, March 1st. The 7.7 inch tablet will support Verizon’s 4G LTE mobile network and customers can pick up the tablet for $499.99 when they sign up for a new 2-year contract.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 features a 1280 x 800 pixel Super AMOLED Plus display with wide viewing angles and vibrant colors. It was one of the best looking tablets I saw at CES in January.

Under the hood the tablet has a 1.4 GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. It will ship with Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb software rather than the newer Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The tablet has a front-facing 2MP camera and a 3.2MP rear camera. It can record 720p HD video and play back 1080p HD video. There’s also an HDMI port for streaming video to an external display.

While the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a nice looking tablet, the $500 starting price could turn away some customers… especially when you realize you need to sign up for a 4G data plan for two years to get that price. Plans start at $30 per month for 2GB of data.

I haven’t seen any news about a WiFi-only version of this tablet yet.

  1. I think the Gataxy Tab 7.7 goes for about $650 on Amazon, right? No contract and Wi-Fi + 4G. Why would I buy one at such a high price from Verizon?!

  2. Good job Samsung! Way to ensure that almost no one will purchase this on release! I’m sure it’s a great device. But $500 on contract good? I doubt it.

    My thoughts exactly.
