Qualcomm is adding a new “Pro” version of its S4 MSM8960 dual-core processor for phone and tablets. The main difference between the new chip and what I can only assume must be the amateur model is that the S4 Pro will feature higher performance Adreno 320 graphics.
According to the company, the Adreno 320 GPU will offer up to four times the performance of the Adreno 225 GPU in the standard MSM8960 chip..
Improved graphics performance doesn’t just mean video games will run more smoothly. Google Android and other operating systems take advantage of hardware graphics acceleration for web browsing and other features including animated effects in the operating system’s user interface.
Games should also look pretty great though.
While we’ll probably see the S4 Pro show up in mobile devices running Android, Qualcomm says it’s also optimized for the Windows 8 operating system which will be released to the public later this year.
