Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Asus is rolling out an updated version of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. The tablet still has its signature features, including a 1.3 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and an optional keyboard dock that “transforms” the tablet into a laptop (with extended battery life thanks to the battery in the dock). But the new Transformer has one more key feature.

The Eee Pad Transformer TF700T model will have a 10.1 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, while the original model has an old-fashioned 1280 x 800 pixel screen.

In other words, not only will you be able to play 1080p HD videos on the Transformer Prime without converting them to a lower resolution first — you’ll actually be able to see all of the pixels.

The HD display will also make images, text, and other graphics look sharper.

The new tablet also has a 2MP front-facing camera instead of the 1.2MP camera on the original Transformer Prime TF201.

Asus will continue to sell the TF201, but the new Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF700T will be the company’s premium model. It’s expected to sell for between $599 and $699 and launch in North America in the second quarter of 2012.

Other specs include an 8MP rear camera, 32GB to 64GB of storage and a 25Whr battery. The tablet is expected to ship with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
