The Archos 101 G9 tablet comes in a few different versions. You can pick one up with a 1 Ghz TI OMAP 4 dual core processor or you can opt for a Turbo model with a 1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz CPU. While the top speed available in the US at the moment is 1.2 GHz, the folks at jbmm picked up a French model with a faster 1.5 GHz chip.

As you’d expect, the new model is a little faster than earlier versions. Jbmm ran a series of benchmarks, and found that the tablet with the 1.5 GHz chip outperforms the older model in Quadrant, CF-Bench, Vellamo, Antutu, and several other benchmark utilities. The scores aren’t that much higher, so I wouldn’t expect a mind-blowing performance boost from the new tablet — and I certainly wouldn’t bother spending a lot of money to upgrade from a 1.2 Ghz model to a 1.5 GHz model.

But the Archos 101 G9 Turbo is one of the first devices to ship with a 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor, and it looks like the new chipset is pretty zippy.

The Archos 101 G9 has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, either 8GB, or 16GB of flash storage or a 250GB hard drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G dongle. It currently ships with Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb software, but Archos plans to make Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available soon.

  1. After clicking the link showing the performance of this device I can say… meh.  My G2X is faster.  Hell my OG Transformer is faster and it is clocked 100 Mhz LOWER then the 1.5 Ghz model.  For Archos to remain remotely competitive with Asus, Acer and Samsung they are going to have to drop the price of their tablets by about $50 across the board and go for the bargain/price minded consumer.

    1. er, the archos 8″ ver is £200 and 10.1 is £250. Compared to the asus -£500, samsung £350, and acer a500 – £410. you cant compare them, apples and oranges.
