Toshiba Z835

Ultrabooks are thin and light laptops with fast Intel processors, high quality solid state disks, and other premium features that usually warrant a premium price tag. Ultrabook prices typically start at $899 and some models can cost $1400 or more.

Intel and its partners such as Acer have been suggesting that prices will fall over the next year or two. But Toshiba and Best Buy aren’t waiting. They’re offering the Toshiba Z835 ultrabook this week for $$699.99.

That’s $200 less than the list price for the Z835, and $100 less than the price Best Buy was charging last month.

The laptop has a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.4 GHz Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state drive.

Toshiba’s ultrabook measures 0.6 inches thick and weighs about 2.5 pounds. That makes it thinner and lighter than most netbooks, although the larger display makes the ultrabook a bit thicker and wider.

Still, for about twice the price of an Intel Atom powered netbook you can now pick up a thin and light laptop with a higher performance processor, quick boot and resume technology, and a fast, durable SSD.

The Toshiba Z835 also has 1 USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, Intel HD graphics, and an 8 cell battery that Toshiba says should be good for up to 8 hours of run time.

  1. Too bad you can’t see one in most BB stores. Very few have them to pickup.

  2. I bought one in November for $799 and I love it.  Best Buy has a Price Match guarantee and I took the receipt to them and got a credit for $100 plus tax.  Thin, fast, light, bright screen, backlit keyboard, and dedicated Home, PgUp, PgDn and End keys. Best value in computing I have seen in a long time.

    1. It’s a great price for a non-atom laptop with a SSD. Too bad I got an UX31 already.
