Dell Mini discontinued
Dell Mini netbooks are no longer available

Dell is apparently killing off yet another budget mobile computing device. The company recently retired the Dell Streak 7 and Streak 5 tablets. Now the Dell Mini line of netbooks is gone.

If you search for laptops with 10 inch displays at the Dell shop, nothing comes up. Meanwhile, a search for specific models brings up a variety of messages indicating that Dell is no longer selling new netbooks.

When you search for the Inspiron 910, you get this note:

The product page for the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 shows that the product is unavailable.

The Dell Inspiron Duo convertible tablet-style netbook is also unavailable.

Dell’s 9 and 10 inch netbooks aren’t available from Dell’s Outlet store either.

Instead, Dell is pushing its Inspiron 14R line of laptops with 14 inch displays. They’re not exactly as light, portable, or cheap as the Mini netbooks.

If you’re looking for something a little smaller than a 14 inch laptop, you can still find an Inspiron 11z notebook with an 11.6 inch display and Intel Core i3 processor… but supplies of this older laptop are likely limited. For now you can grab one for $300 with the coupon code 5R6T7Z2SFFNNMV.

Dell is still offering netbooks to business customers. The Dell Latitude 2120 is still available, but prices run $469 and up, making these mini-laptops some of the most expensive Intel Atom-powered netbooks on the market.

It’s possible that Dell has simply sold out of its existing inventory and plans to launch new models with Intel Cedar Trail or AMD Brazos processors soon. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Dell has decided to exit the low-margin netbook space and focus on more expensive products with higher profit margins.

The company has a wide range of laptop and desktop computers for consumers and business customers, and Dell is expected to introduce its first thin and light laptop based on Intel’s ultrabook platform soon as well.

Update: The Verge received confirmation from Dell that the company will no longer be making 10 inch and smaller netbooks. That means we won’t be seeing any new models with Intel Atom Cedar Trail chips either.

  1. Maybe they should just close the doors and give the money back to the stockholders?
