A new Chinese processor called the Allwinner A10 is showing up in a growing number of inexpensive Chinese tablets. The chip features a 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor core, Mali 400 graphics, HD video capabilities and support for up to 1GB of DDR3 memory.
Best of all, it’s available for prices as low as $7 when ordered in bulk.
That probably explains why a growing number of tablets based on the new chipset are showing up.
Despite the high clock speed, the chips should offer decent, but not spectacular performance or battery life. ARM Cortex-A8 architecture has been around for a few years and doesn’t offer the advantages of multi-core chips based on Cortex-A9 or Cortex-A15 designs.
Still, today’s cheap tablets are starting to offer the kind of performance that we would have expected from high-end phones two years ago. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Have one of these that I bought from Tmart at $56.
Works just great with anything I was intending tu use it for.
Got one in a cheap chinese tablet running android 4.0, sometimes it slows but its a good deal for u.s.$155
Scary stuff if you are INTEL or AMD, the average selling price is say $100 per cpu for X-86…so this good enough performance will be putting the squeeze on them big time!
