Acer Iconia Tab A200

Acer has finally issued a press release introducing the Iconia Tab A200 tablet. We’ve already seen a promo video, photos, and an FCC listing for the tablet. But now we have a press release, launch information, and spec sheet, thanks to the folks at Netbook News.

On paper, the Iconia Tab A200 looks an awful lot like the Acer Iconia Tab A500 which has been available for much of 2011. There are two key difference though.

The new model will ship this month with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but Acer will roll out a software update with Android 4.0 in January. The new model also has a slightly new case design and comes in a choice of two colors: red or gray.

Acer’s new tablet has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1 GHz NVIDiA Tegra 2 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB or 16GB of storage. It has a 3260mAh, 24.1 Whr battery which Acer says should provide up to 8 hours of video playback time.

There’s a front-facing 2MP camera, but no rear camera. The tablet has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a microSD card slot. It measures 10.2″ x 6.9″ x 0.5″  and weighs 1.6 pounds.  In other words, it’s about the same size as the Iconia Tab A500, but it’s a tiny bit lighter.

The A200 will probably be Acer’s new budget model tablet. The company also plans to launch a tablet with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor in 2012, and that model may have a high resolution 1920 x 1200 pixel display. It will likely cost a bit more than the A200.

  1. It appears to me that Acer make this as a cheaper A500 model. You did not mention the full USB OTG that appears in the presentation video. ¿It will exists in the production versión?…

  2. I don’t see any difference between this one and the one already out.  I hope they upgrade their existing product to ICS as well.

  3. This tablet makes no sense to me whatsoever.
I could understand it if they were using a newer TI OMAP SoC but the Tegra 2 at this point? I might as well buy one of the Tegra 2 tablets that are going on sale left and right at.Why not just keep their original Tegra 2 tablet and discount it–they’ve already spend the money on design and manufacturing setup. . . Making a new model for a budget tablet makes little sense. Guess we’ll see when they release a price for it.
