Sharp Galapagos 7 inch tablet

This summer Sharp unveiled a new 7 inch Android tablet. Now it’s available for purchase in Japan.

The new tablet runs Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb, has a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, and a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor. It has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD Card slot.

Sharp’s Galapagos EB-A71GJ-B also has a rather catchy name, don’t you think? Other specs include WiFi, Bluetooth and WiMAX, as well as HDMI output and a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera.

It measures 7.7″ x 4.8″ x 0.5″  and weighs 0.87 pounds.

There’s no word yet on whether we’ll see them outside of Japan anytime soon, but Sharp has partnered with a US mobile broadband company to offer Android products in the States. It’s possible that the latest Sharp Galapagos tablet could be one of the first.

  1. Where are the Pixel Qi screens (7 inch).   We thought that ZTE Light 2 with Pixel Qi was going to be out by Q3?   Does this Pixel Qi web site (where it says that 7″ is still under development) tell the status (or is the web page just not been updated yet)?

Since it has been this long, the Pixel Qi 7″ should be 1280×800 (with pinch to zoom) instead of 1024×600 (that is old tech now).   Is Pixel Qi just one step behind, or are they too many steps ahead?
