Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Yesterday Samsung started pushing out a software update for Galaxy Tab 10.1 users which updated the tablet to Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Unfortunately many users reported that the update had a pretty dramatic side effect: they couldn’t connect to WiFi networks after updating.

Samsung has temporarily pulled the software update, which means that if you haven’t already updated your tablet you probably won’t be prompted to download and install Android 3.2 until after the problem is fixed.

Hopefully the company will also provide a fix for anyone that’s already updated their tablet — preferably one that doesn’t require downloading an over-the-air update over WiFi.

Android 3.2 Honeycomb isn’t a huge update over Android 3.1. Google made it easier to run some smartphone apps on tablets by providing a better method for resizing small apps to fit larger displays, but most of the other changes aren’t really visible to users.

It will probably be at least a few months until we see Samsung and other companies start pushing out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for existing tablet users. Google just released the source code for Android 4.0 last night.
