While Samsung’s legal battle with Apple over tablets continues in Germany, an Australian court has lifted a ban on Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in that country.
This summer Australian authorities had issued a preliminary injunction on Samsung’s tablet sales, but an appeals court has overturned that ruling.
That’s not necessarily the end of the story though. Apple can still appeal the latest ruling.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is an Android tablet with a 10.1 inch display. It bears a more-than-passing resemblance to the Apple iPad 2, but that’s true of most thin and light Android tablets. But Samsung may pose one of the biggest challenges to Apple’s dominance in the mobile space.
Samsung sells more Android smartphones than any other company, and the Korean device maker has also introduced a range of Android tablets with screen sizes between 5 and 10.1 inches.
Android tablets haven’t had the kind of market success that Apple’s iPad has had in recent years, but Android phones also got off to a slow start, but now Android phone sales outnumber iPhone sales around the globe.
So it’s not surprising to see Apple fighting to keep Samsung tablets out of the market, whether or not you buy the argument that Samsung, Google, and other companies have simply copied Apple’s ideas.
