Acer Iconia Tab A701

Acer appears to be working on a new Android tablet that will feature an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and a screen that will really take advantage of the Tegra’s graphics power. According to details found on the Acer support website, the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A700 tablet will have a 1920 x 1200 pixel display.

There’s no word on how large that display will be. We could be looking at a 10 inch tablet, but it could also be something larger. Acer wouldn’t be the only company working on a 12 inch tablet, after all.

Other details are scarce, but the Acer A700 currently seems to be running Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb. There are actually two different models, the Iconia Tab A700 is a WiFi-only tablet, while the Acer Iconia Tab A701 will have 3G mobile broadband capabilities as well.

Other unannounced Acer tablets that have been discovered this week include the Iconia Tab A510 tablet with a 10 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and Tegra 3 processor, and the Iconia Tab A200 which appears to be a budget model with a Tegra 2 dual-core chip.

  1. I think 12″ would be OK. . . especially if it had a good dock like the TPrime–10″ is too small to be a total replacement at home and it is too big to be mobile, much rather have a 6 to 7″ for travel and 12″ for home use.

  2. A 12 inch tablet seems like it would be too big unless they got rid of enough bezel to make it the size of a 10 inch tablet.

I hope someone comes out with a tablet with at least 1080 resolution.  I think the first tablet that does that will have some bragging rights.  I know that if Apple did it first it would probably be one of the biggest and most touted features… I kind of hope another company will do it first. Samsung in particular seems like it would be able to do it before anyone else since they develop and produce the panels.

Hopefully one day display technology will be so advanced that it doesn’t matter what resolution a tablet has since you wouldn’t be able to see any pixels ever again.
