Archos 101 G9

As promised (although a little behind schedule), Archos has rolled out a new version of the Archos 101 G9 tablet with a slight spec bump. The 10 inch tablet initially shipped with a 1 GHz TI OMAP4 dual core processor. Now it’s also available with a faster 1.2 GHz OMAP4 chip.

You can order the new model from the Archos Store…. provided you’re in Europe. It sells for £299.99 in the UK or 349.99 € in other European countries. The new Archos 101 G9 Turbo isn’t yet available in the US.

Aside from the new processor, the Archos 101 G9 Turbo looks a lot like the original model. It has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive multitouch display and runs Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

The tablet has 16GB of storage, GPS, a G-Sensor, and compass. It has a speaker and mic, and a front-facing 720p camera. The tablet can support a wide range of media formats including MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG Vorbis audio files and and FLAC, MKV, MP4, H.264, FLV, and video files.

  1. i found myself wonder, is the USB port used for the 3G dongle a host port? As in, could i potentially plug in a keyboard or hub there?

    1. Yup it works like a normal full sized USB host port, you can connect a hard drive, USB keyboard, USB mouse, or even a USB hub to connect more than one. And also, the Micro-USB doubles as USB host also when the right adapter cable is used, so it actually has 2 USB host ports on the side.

      1.  Are you sure ? ’cause I remember reading that Archos claimed that USB port to is not to be used by something other than the G3 dongle.

Did you try it ? Does the USB host works well, if so I may not even wait for the 250GB hard disk version.

Your other comment also baffles me, I remember reading the specification that claimed that only Mass Storage device USB are to be supported. but you clam that a HUB and HMI (Mouse) are also functional. Can you confirm that ?

        1. Yes I can confirm all work, I got it right here and am connecting a 2TB NTFS hard drive, all just fine. One “weird” thing for now, you have to activate “3G Stick” in the settings for the USB Host port to be active. In one previous firmware, Archos had disabled it but users in the forum complained so they re-enabled it to be used as a general USB host port. And yes the Micro USB port doubles as USB host, usually for that you’d need to use the appropriate Micro USB to normal USB adapter cable, for $1 or something. If you plan to connect and disconnect thousands of times, I think using the MicroUSB for host is better. I think they both can power a 500mAh USB hard drive if you want but that obviously can use a lot of battery power. The MicroUSB also support 1500mAh charging power thus 3x faster charging than a normal USB charge, but you need to use the special power to USB charger adapter that comes with the tablet.
