T-Mobile and Walmart have announced that starting October 16th customers will be able to sign up for a 4G service plan for just $30 per month. The deal will be only be available at T-Mobile.com or in-stores at a Walmart location.
The new plan is available without a contract, and for $30 per month you get:
- Up to 5GB of HSPA+ 4G data
- Unlimited data at 2G speeds once you hit the 5GB limit
- Unlimited text messaging
- 100 minutes of talk
I just looked at my phone bills for the past few months, and it looks like I typically use less than 1GB of data and fewer than 100 minutes of talk time, so I could probably save quite a bit of cash under the new plan… but my current phone doesn’t have an HSPA+ radio so I wouldn’t get to take full advantage of the offer unless I bought a new phone at full price. Since this is a pre-paid, contract-free plan you won’t find any cheap, subsidized smartphones as part of the deal.
The press release doesn’t mention any tablets, so it sounds like the new offer from T-Mobile and Walmart is aimed at smartphone owners that use data more often than voice on their phones.
