The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook features a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, a 10 inch display, and a few unusual accessory options including an optional TV tuner.
I reviewed the Dell Mini 10 when it was first released in early 2010, and I liked the laptop a lot thanks to its great battery life and decent all-around performance. But to be honest the netbook hasn’t changed all that much in nearly two years — so I wasn’t too surprised to see that the Mini 10 is no longer listed on Dell’s consumer laptop portal.
What did surprise me is that there’s nothing new to replace it. When you search Dell.com’s consumer website for laptops with 10 inch displays, all you’ll find is the Dell Inspiron Duo — a $500 mini-laptop with a touchscreen display that swivels back for use in tablet mode.
I reached out to Dell to see if the Mini 10 had been discontinued and I was informed that it is still available — from the Dell Small Business website. You can still pick one up for $289 and up.
The Small Business model actually has a few bonus features, including 2GB of RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium. The product pages also suggest the netbook has a 1366 x 600 pixel display, which is a rather unusual resolution. I have to wonder if it’s actually a 1366 x 768 pixel screen or a 1024 x 600 pixel display.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get any information about Dell’s future plans for the netbook space. Now that Intel Atom Cedar Trail processors are starting to make the rounds I suspect we’ll see a number of updated netbooks from major PC makers in the coming months, but few announcements have been made so far.
