Archos has rolled out a software update for its Gen8 line of Android tablets which offers some bug fixes and improvements. That includes support for USB camera host capabilities, the ability to recalibrate the accelerometer without rebooting, and video improvements.
Archos 101 tablet owners also now have the ability to use a supported USB Ethernet adapter or Archos 3G key to get online without relying on a WiFi hotspot.
The Archos Gen8 tablets were first launched in 2010, and there are 6 different models, with screen sizes ranging from 2.8 inches to 10.1 inches. They all run Google Android 2.2 Froyo.
Recently Archos launched its Gen9 line of tablets featuring faster processors and Android 3.2 Honeycomb software. But Archos is still selling Gen8 tablets, and the Archos 101 Gen8 tablet is a reasonably priced Android device with prices as low as $230.
It features a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel LCD display with a capacitive multitouch panel, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor, and 8GB to 16GB of storage. Archos tablets tend to have excellent support for a wide range of audio and video formats, and the Archos 101 has 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 support in addition to the new support for 3G and Ethernet adapters.
This is why I got an Archos tablet (the 101IT), constant updates from Archos and a wonderfull community.
Not to mention that it is a pretty good device and it’s priced very well.
