Lenovo IdeaPad U300sLenovo has unveiled its first ultrabook, a thin and light laptop with a 13.3 inch display, Intel Core i-series processor, and a solid state disk.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300S features a 1366 x 768 pixel display, and a choice of an Intel Core i5-2457M or Core i7-2677M processor. Both feature Intel GMA HD 3000 graphics. It will be available with up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and up to 256GB of storage.

The notebook will measure 12.8″ x 8.5″ x 0.6″ and weigh about 2.9 pounds with a 4 cell battery which Lenovo says should provide up to 8 hours of run time — or up to 30 days of standby time.

You also get the usual goodies including HDMI output, a mic and headphone jack, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a 1.3MP webcam. There are only two USB ports though, 1 USB 2.0 port and another USB 3.0 port.

The laptop shell is made from a single piece of aluminum which will be available with gray or orange scratch-resistant coats. The keyboard and touchpad area are black, and feature Intel’s “Breathable Keyboard” design that allows air to flow through the keyboard so that the ultrabook doesn’t require any vents on the bottom.

Lenovo says its RapidCharge technology will let you charge the battery from 0% to 50% in only 30 minutes. The company says the computer can also boot in as little as 10 seconds

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300s is expected to ship in October for $1200 and up.

Lenovo is also introducing two other ultaportable laptops today that aren’t exactly ultrabooks. The first is the Lenovo IdeaPad U300 notebook with a 13.3 inch display, an Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor, and a choice of a hard drive or SSD. The laptop weighs about 3.5 pounds.

The second is the IdeaPad U400 which features the same processor and storage options, but a 14 inch display and an AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card option. The U400 also features an integrated DVD burner. This notebook weighs about 4.2 pounds.

  1. Imagine that!  A laptop that is not the drab black, grey or silver.  Yes, Dell and Acer offer the widest selection of colors but that consist of your choice of red or blue.

Curious to see how they keep heat under control with these Core series.  Even my HP dm1 with the AMD E-350 can heat up watching videos.
