Toshiba tablet

The Toshiba Thrive Android tablet has only been on sale for a few months, but the company is already getting ready to introduce its next tablet. Notebook Italia got some leaked pictures and it looks like the new model will be thinner than the Thrive, and it will have a brushed metal finish with chromed edges instead of the black plastic found on the company’s current tablet.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the new tablet won’t have most of the things that make the Thrive special. There’s no room for full-sized USB, HDMI, or SD card connections. Instead you get a microSD card port, mini HDMI port, and micro USB.

Toshiba is expected to introduce the new tablet at the IFA trade show next week, and if I were a betting man I’d say it won’t only be thinner than the Thrive, but also lighter than Toshiba’s nearly 1.7 pound tablet. But there’s still no word on the processor, price, or other important specs.

  1. I’m not so concerned about the switch from full-size to micro/mini ports. Of greater concern is the battery. Will it still have an easy to remove back panel and a replaceable battery? That’s what really makes the Thrive unique in my view.

  2. It still would have more ports than the vast majority of skinny tablets out there, which can only be a good thing.
