Chrome bookmarks

Google’s Chrome web browser and Chrome OS operating system store bookmarks in a couple of places. There’s a bookmark bar that you can view near the top of your browser, links for frequently visited sites on the new tab page, and you can load an old fashioned bookmark manager. The new tab page also shows icons for any web apps installed from the Chrome Web Store.

But Google is working on simplifying things by retooling the New Tab page a bit… at least in Chrome OS.

Here’s how it works. When you open a new browser tab you’ll find three tabs at the bottom of the screen:

  1. Most Visited
  2. Apps
  3. Websites

When you click the Most Visited tab you’ll see thumbnail icons for the web pages you visit most frequently. The Apps view will show you icons for the apps you’ve currently installed.

The Bookmarks page will show a list of bookmarks and bookmark folders.

It’s a small change, but it could make the process of finding what you’re looking for a lot simpler. Right now the feature is only available in the development builds of Chromium, but it should eventually find its way into Chrome OS, and hopefully the Chrome web browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux as well.
