Asus will soon offer an updated version of the Eee PC 1215B notebook with a 1.65 GHz AMD E-450 processor.
Right now the 12.1 inch notebook is available with either a 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 chip or lower power AMD C-30 or C-50 processors.
AMD hasn’t yet officially launched the new E-450 processor, but it’s expected to hit the market in the next month or two. We’ve heard that the processor will be a dual-core chip with Radeon HD 6320 graphics with support for 1080p HD video playback and DirectX 11 graphics.
On paper the AMD E-450 doesn’t look much faster than the E-350 processor, but the new chip features Turbo Core technology. This allows a computer to overclock a single core while underclocking the second core. This can offer improved performance on tasks that aren’t optimized for multi-core chips while reducing power consumption and extending battery life.
There’s no word on when the new version of the Asus Eee PC 1215B will be available or how much it will cost. The laptop has a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 0.3MP webcam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI ports, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, up to 500GB of hard drive space, and support for up to 4GB of memory. It has a 56 Whr battery and some models are available with Bluetooth 3.0.
uhmm, it has USB 3.0 (as well as 2.0) by what I’ve read on other sites…
(in the e450 version I meant)
in the E-350 version was a USB 3.0
Looking forward to getting an E-450 netbook in the near future. However, if ASUS don’t provide a USB 3.0 port then I’ll be getting an MSI machine.
Upon further investigation I can’t really blame ASUS for the lack of a USB 3.0 port: It’s not native to the A50M chipset. Implementations on the A50M have obviously involved a third party chip which adds cost to the overall product – something you don’t need in this competitive low-cost segment. AMD’s A70M chipset will be providing native USB 3.0 support and hopefully we’ll start seeing these in the same form factor very soon.
with glare or non-glare display?
